So we brought in John Mills, Mt. Angel Vitamins Director of Quality & Compliance and Head Formulator, who is the intellect behind our formula upgrades and creations. MEET THE EDUCATOR: JOHN MILLS
John Mills was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. He currently lives in Oregon and works
for Highland Laboratories, Inc., a dietary supplement manufacturer. Highland Laboratories also manufactures cosmetic products, Private Label products and markets their own line of supplements under the Mt Angel Vitamin brand.
He received his BS in Chemistry and Biology from Graceland College (now Graceland University) in 1980. He later received his MS in Chemistry (specialization in Biochemistry) from Arizona State University in 1984, where he studied neurotoxic effects of snake toxins relative to synaptosomal preparations. While pursuing his graduate degree he was employed at Searle Pharmaceutical where he was responsible for analyzing natural soluble fiber products.
In 1984 he joined Sigma Aldrich as a protein isolation chemist and was soon promoted to supervisor. By 1990 he was the Group Leader in the Enzyme Analytical Group. In 1994 he left Sigma to join Highland Laboratories as the Quality Control Manager where he was foundational in implementing the quality control laboratory for the company and guiding Highland through the first GMP audit process and certification through the NPA, (Natural Products Association).
Following this John was promoted to Director of Quality & Compliance. He is also the lead formulator for Highland’s products using the latest research in creating cutting edge formulations. John is also on the board of the NPA, a leading natural products industry trade association to assure quality dietary supplements across the marketplace.
