Everyday Liquid Sunshine is a liquid vitamin D3 supplement. Each drop delivers 25 mcg (1,000 IU) of vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol, 125% of the Daily Value, dissolved in fractionated coconut oil with natural lemon flavor. One 1 fl oz bottle holds 1,400 one-drop servings. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and supports healthy bones, normal muscle function and normal immune function.†

Your skin makes vitamin D from UVB light, which works fine until you spend daylight hours indoors (UVB doesn't get through window glass) or live somewhere with a long gray winter. Hello, Oregon. Everyday Liquid Sunshine is for adults who want a steady 1,000 IU a day in one drop, with no pill to swallow, for less than 2 cents a serving.

If you're in your late 30s or 40s, this is a good time to start. The habits you build now carry you into your 70s and 80s, and bones are a long game. Aging isn't optional. Getting old is.

Why people take Everyday Liquid Sunshine

  • Bones. Vitamin D helps your gut absorb calcium, the main building block of bone, and supports healthy bones.†
  • Muscles. Your muscles need vitamin D to move, and it supports normal muscle function.†
  • Immune function. Your immune cells carry vitamin D receptors, and vitamin D supports normal immune function.†
  • Healthy vitamin D levels. D3 is the form your skin makes, and in a daily-dose trial it raised blood vitamin D more than the same amount of D2.†

What's in each serving

Ingredient Amount per serving % Daily Value
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 25 mcg 125%

Serving size is 1 drop, and the label lists 1,400 servings per container. Other ingredients, as printed: Fractionated coconut oil and natural lemon flavor. The label also states: "NO corn, soy, salt, gluten, milk & egg products, sugar, starch, or preservatives." The label doesn't name the source of the vitamin D3, so we don't describe this product as vegan.

How Everyday Liquid Sunshine works

Vitamin D3: the form your skin makes

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form your skin produces from sunlight, and it isn't active yet when you take it. Your liver turns it into 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the form a blood test measures, and your kidneys turn that into calcitriol, the active form that helps your gut absorb calcium (the NIH fact sheet on how vitamin D is activated and how much adults need).

Why D3 and not D2? In a 12-week randomized, placebo-controlled trial, 335 healthy women aged 20 to 64 took 15 mcg a day of D2 or D3 in juice or a biscuit through a UK winter. Blood vitamin D in the D3 groups rose about 15 to 17 nmol/L more than in the D2 groups (a daily-dose trial comparing D2 and D3). One trial, women only, a lower dose than one drop: read it as direction, not a number to expect.

What one drop a day does to your levels

In a winter study of 67 healthy men given 0, 25, 125 or 250 mcg of D3 a day for about 20 weeks, blood 25-hydroxyvitamin D changed in direct proportion to the dose, about 0.7 nmol/L for every extra microgram a day (a dose-response study of daily vitamin D3). At that rate, a 25 mcg drop works out to roughly 17 nmol/L above taking nothing, once levels settle. People respond differently, so the only way to know your own number is a 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood test.

Why the D3 is dissolved in oil

Vitamin D is fat-soluble, so it rides into your body along with fat. Here the D3 is already dissolved in fractionated coconut oil. A systematic review of head-to-head comparisons found that in healthy people, vitamin D in oil produced a bigger rise in blood 25-hydroxyvitamin D than vitamin D in a powder or an ethanol base (a review of how the carrier affects vitamin D absorption). The honest limit: the reviewers found only four studies to compare.

Vitamin D and calcium

Vitamin D's best-known job is helping your gut absorb calcium. In a Creighton University study, people absorbed 65% more calcium from a 500 mg dose when their blood vitamin D averaged about 86 nmol/L than at about 50 nmol/L, and both numbers sit inside the normal reference range (a study of calcium absorption at two vitamin D levels). It measured one calcium dose over 10 to 12 hours, not bones over years, so it shows the mechanism, not a bone outcome.†

Vitamin D and your muscles

A meta-analysis of 30 randomized trials with 5,615 people (average age 61) found a small but statistically significant improvement in overall muscle strength with vitamin D, and no significant change in muscle mass or power (a meta-analysis of vitamin D and muscle strength). The effect was bigger in people 65 and older and in people starting from very low blood levels, and close to zero in people under 65. Vitamin D is part of the foundation, not a substitute for picking up heavy things.†

Vitamin D and the immune system

B cells, T cells and antigen-presenting cells all carry vitamin D receptors and can make the active form of vitamin D themselves, which lets vitamin D help regulate both your first-response (innate) and learned (adaptive) immune responses (a review of how vitamin D works in the immune system).† Taking more than you need doesn't buy extra immunity, and we don't claim it does.

How to take Everyday Liquid Sunshine

The label directions, word for word: "One drop of liquid sunshine for 1,000 IU (25 mcg) Vitamin D3 per day, as a dietary supplement." The label also says: "Recommended for adult use only."

  • Take it with a meal that has some fat in it. Fat in the gut helps vitamin D absorption, per the NIH fact sheet.
  • Add up your vitamin D. Count the vitamin D on every label you take, multivitamins included. For adults, the Tolerable Upper Intake Level is 100 mcg (4,000 IU) a day from all sources. The NIH fact sheet lists vitamin D upper limits by age and the medications that interact with vitamin D.

Ask your healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition.

Don't take our word for it

  • Verified by independent labs. ISO 17025-accredited labs check our test results.
  • Every ingredient lot tested before use. Federal rules only require an identity test on incoming dietary ingredients. We test every incoming lot that goes into Everyday Liquid Sunshine for identity, potency, heavy metals and microbes.
  • If it misses spec, it doesn't go in a bottle. More than 99% of our tests pass, and the lots that don't are turned away.
  • A certificate of analysis for every lot. Every lot of Everyday Liquid Sunshine gets its own.

Our formulators, makers and testers all work under one roof in a UL-certified cGMP facility, the owners work in the building too, and we've been owner-run since 2017. We've been making supplements in Oregon since 1974. That's 52 years, and we're not getting old either.

Frequently asked questions

How much vitamin D is in one drop?

One drop has 25 mcg (1,000 IU) of vitamin D3, 125% of the 20 mcg (800 IU) Daily Value. For comparison, the RDA is 15 mcg (600 IU) a day for adults 19 to 70 and 20 mcg (800 IU) over 70.

How many servings are in a bottle?

The label lists 1,400 one-drop servings in the 1 fl oz bottle. At $25.99, that's less than 2 cents a serving.

Can I take more than one drop a day?

The label directs one drop a day, and that's what we recommend. If you think you need more, talk with your healthcare practitioner first, ideally with a 25-hydroxyvitamin D blood test in hand. The adult upper limit is 4,000 IU a day from all sources.

Can kids use Everyday Liquid Sunshine?

No. The label says it is recommended for adult use only. For children, ask your pediatrician about a product and amount made for their age.

Why a liquid drop instead of a capsule?

Mostly preference: the D3 is already in oil and there's no pill to swallow. If you'd rather take a capsule, Good Vitamin D, a 2,000 IU D3 capsule with bromelain, is our one-capsule-a-day option.

Can I take it with other Mt. Angel Vitamins products?

Usually yes, as long as you count your vitamin D. Bones + K2, our calcium, vitamin D3 and K2 bone formula, already has 25 mcg (1,000 IU) of D3 per 2-capsule serving, so the two together add up to 2,000 IU a day. Our other vitamin D products contain D3 too, so pick one main vitamin D source rather than stacking several.
