Good Energy+ is a caffeinated energy and endurance supplement in 60 vegetarian capsules, 30 servings per bottle. Each 2-capsule serving delivers 400 mg Rhodiola rosea root extract (1% salidrosides), 100 mg Panax ginseng root extract (4% ginsenosides) and 100 mg caffeine (42 mg from yerba mate, 58 mg added), plus a 1,002 mg proprietary blend, to support energy, alertness and endurance.†

Good Energy+ is for the days that ask a lot: the early workout, the packed calendar, the 2 p.m. slump. It fits people in their 30s and 40s building habits now so they can keep doing what they love in their 70s and 80s, and people past 50 with zero plans to slow down. Aging isn't optional. Getting old is.

It isn't a stand-in for sleep, food or water. It's measured caffeine plus Rhodiola and ginseng, with the key amounts on the panel.

Why people take Good Energy+

  • Endurance. Rhodiola rosea supports physical endurance during exercise, with the most consistent research on single doses taken before a workout.†
  • Alertness. 100 mg of caffeine per serving supports alertness, attention and reaction time.†
  • Mental performance. Caffeine supports mental performance on demanding days, with Panax ginseng playing a supporting part.†
  • Energy you can measure. Supports energy for your workday or workout, with the exact caffeine amount and its sources printed on the label.†

How Good Energy+ works

Rhodiola rosea: 400 mg, standardized to 1% salidrosides

Rhodiola is a hardy plant from high, harsh climates in Europe and Asia. Our root extract is standardized to 1% salidrosides, one of the marker compounds researchers measure in Rhodiola, so every lot has to hit the same level instead of being "some amount of ground root."

The research is most consistent for endurance. In a double-blind trial in 24 young, healthy volunteers, a single 200 mg dose taken an hour before testing increased time to exhaustion from 16.8 to 17.2 minutes on average. A small gain, and four weeks of daily use didn't add to it. A 2023 systematic review of 13 randomized trials in 263 healthy adults found single pre-exercise doses had a positive effect on endurance and on how hard exercise felt, while longer-term use helped short, intense (anaerobic) efforts but not endurance.† Most studies had an unclear or high risk of bias, so more high-quality trials are needed. Good Energy+ provides 400 mg, but extracts and doses in these trials varied, so results don't transfer one-for-one.

Panax ginseng: 100 mg, standardized to 4% ginsenosides

Panax ginseng is a root with a long history of traditional use in East Asia. Its main active compounds are ginsenosides, and ours are measured by HPLC, a lab method that separates and quantifies the individual compounds.

The human research is real but mixed. In a crossover trial in 30 healthy young adults, 400 mg of a standardized extract improved mental arithmetic and ratings of calmness, while 200 mg slowed the usual drop in mood but also slowed responses on the math task. A week of daily use added nothing beyond the first dose.† At 100 mg, ginseng is a supporting player here, not the headliner.

Caffeine: 100 mg, with the sources spelled out

Through the day, a compound called adenosine builds up in the brain and nudges you toward feeling tired. Caffeine blocks adenosine's receptors, so that signal gets muffled for a while. Each serving has 100 mg: 42 mg from yerba mate leaf extract and 58 mg of added caffeine.

You don't need a huge dose to notice it. In a controlled study of low caffeine doses in 20 healthy men, single doses from 32 to 256 mg each improved auditory vigilance and visual reaction time, with no adverse behavioral effects noted.† A review of low-dose caffeine and exercise found that about 200 mg or less can support vigilance, alertness and mood during and after exercise with few if any side effects, though responses vary.† A large systematic review of caffeine safety concluded that up to 400 mg a day isn't associated with overt adverse effects in healthy adults.

The 1,002 mg proprietary blend

  • Yerba mate leaf extract (Ilex paraguariensis): the South American leaf brewed as mate tea, and the source of 42 mg of the caffeine.
  • Sea buckthorn berry and goji fruit extracts: two berries from Europe and Asia.
  • Bromelain (1200 GDU/g): protein-digesting enzymes from pineapple. GDU measures enzyme activity, not just weight.
  • Royal jelly concentrate: made by worker bees to feed developing bees and the queen, standardized to 4.0% 10-HDA, a fatty acid characteristic of royal jelly.
  • Eleutherococcus senticosus root 50:1 extract (eleuthero): roughly 50 parts raw root concentrated into each part of extract.
  • Bioperine®: a black pepper extract standardized for piperine.

To be candid: the label lists the blend as one total, so we don't make specific claims for individual blend ingredients. The three ingredients with printed amounts are the ones you can check.

How to take Good Energy+

Directions (from the label): "Take two capsules prior to a meal, in the morning or afternoon, as a dietary supplement."

  • Count your caffeine. Add the 100 mg per serving to your coffee, tea, soda, pre-workout and energy drinks.
  • Keep it to the morning or afternoon, as the label says. Late-day caffeine can get in the way of a good night's sleep.
  • Before a workout: the most promising Rhodiola research used a single dose about an hour before exercise.

If you react to bee products (royal jelly) or caffeine makes you jittery, ask your practitioner first. Ask your healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or have a medical condition. Because it contains caffeine, store it out of reach of children.

Don't take our word for it

We've been making supplements in Oregon since 1974. After 52 years, we'd still rather show you the work than ask for your trust.

  • Verified by independent labs. ISO 17025-accredited labs check our test results.
  • Every ingredient lot tested before use. Federal rules only require an identity test. We test every incoming ingredient lot, from the Rhodiola to the yerba mate, for identity, potency, heavy metals and microbes.
  • If it misses spec, it doesn't go in a bottle. More than 99% of our tests pass, and the lots that don't are turned away.
  • A certificate of analysis for every lot. That includes Good Energy+.

Made in the USA. Made and tested in Mt. Angel, Oregon. That's a farm town of about 3,500 people in the Willamette Valley. Good Energy+ is made in our UL-certified cGMP facility, where the formulators, makers and testers work under one roof and the owners work in the building too. Owner-run since 2017, and we're not getting old either.

Frequently asked questions

How much caffeine is in Good Energy+?

Each 2-capsule serving has 100 mg of caffeine: 42 mg from yerba mate leaf extract and 58 mg added. That's a quarter of the 400 mg a day the caffeine safety review above found isn't associated with overt adverse effects in healthy adults, so count it with your other sources.

When should I take it, and with food?

Take two capsules prior to a meal, in the morning or afternoon, as the label directs. Before breakfast or lunch works, and it keeps the caffeine out of your evening.

How soon will I notice it?

The caffeine works the day you take it. The Rhodiola endurance trial above tested one hour after a single dose, and four weeks of daily use added nothing more, so judge it day by day.†

Can I take it with Adrenal Support or a B vitamin?

They can be used together, but know the overlap. Adrenal Support also contains Rhodiola root extract (1% salidrosides) and Eleutherococcus senticosus root 50:1 extract, so you'd get more of both. For energy support without more caffeine, B-12 Essential Trio and B-Complex are B vitamin formulas (neither label lists caffeine) that support normal energy metabolism.†

Does Good Energy+ support healthy blood sugar?

That isn't what it's labeled for. Good Energy+ is formulated for energy and endurance, and that's the job we stand behind. If supporting healthy blood sugar levels already within the normal range is your main goal, Blood Sugar Support is the formula we make for that.†

Is it safe to take with my medication?

Ask your healthcare practitioner before you start. Bring the bottle so they can check the caffeine, botanicals and royal jelly against what you take.
